Paul Mullin's Wrexham Future In Doubt Amid Reduced Playing Time And Transfer Speculation

Wrexham AFC's star striker, Paul Mullin, is facing an uncertain future at the club following a series of events that have seen his playing time significantly reduced. The 30-year-old forward, who has been instrumental in Wrexham's rise through the English football leagues, has found himself sidelined in recent months, leading to speculation about his relationship with manager Phil Parkinson and potential transfer moves.

Mullin's troubles began in early 2025 when he underwent spinal surgery to address a long-standing lower back and hamstring issue. The procedure, performed in June 2024, caused him to miss the start of the 2024–25 season. Upon his return in September, Mullin scored his first goal of the season in a 3–0 EFL Trophy victory over Salford City, celebrating by donning a Deadpool mask in reference to his cameo in the superhero movie "Deadpool & Wolverine."

Despite this positive return, Mullin's form declined, and he scored only five goals throughout the season. From February onwards, he was excluded from the first team, with Parkinson favouring other forwards such as Steven Fletcher, Jack Marriott, and Sam Smith. Mullin's last appearance came in a defeat to Peterborough United in the EFL Trophy on 26 February, during which he missed a penalty in the shootout.

The striker's absence from the squad led to growing concerns among fans. In March 2025, posters bearing the word 'missing' alongside Mullin's picture appeared around Wrexham, reflecting supporters' worries about his future at the club.

Amidst these developments, reports have emerged linking Mullin with a potential move away from Wrexham. Speculation suggests that League One side Wigan Athletic is interested in signing the striker. However, further investigation indicates that Wigan's interest may be more related to Mullin's desire to remain in the north-west of England rather than any concrete transfer plans.

In response to the rumours of a fallout with manager Phil Parkinson, Mullin took to social media in March 2025 to label the gossip as "nonsense," emphasising his commitment to the team and denying any discord with the coach.

As Wrexham prepares for the upcoming season in the EFL Championship, the situation surrounding Paul Mullin remains fluid. The club's management and supporters await clarity on the striker's future, hoping for a resolution that aligns with both Mullin's career aspirations and Wrexham's ambitions in the league.
